This is a compilation of a 3 day class on “The Right Mindset to Smashing Your 2021 Goals.”
Before we begin, answer this question for yourself…you don set your 2021 goals abi we go run am anyhow?🤔🤷🏻♀️
And if you've been setting goals before now?
What's been your major hindrance to smashing those goals in time past?
Okay, note it down.
You can also make a comment under this thread.
2017 was the very first time I set goals to achieve.
Femi, my BF then had told me the importance of goals and why it was really "dangellous" leaving things to chance, no goals, no plan, just vibes and Insha Allah😌
I was really hyped about it all and for the first time, I set my goals for the year. Yippee💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
I couldn't wait to start smashing my 2017 goals but then, 2018 came and lalala...🥳
I was setting the same goal I set the previous year all over again😆
What happened? What went wrong? What did I or did I not do? Why didn't I achieve my goals?
We would look at why this happens and how to break free from that mental loop and smash your heart 2021 goals.
But before we begin proper, come o, has this happened to you before?
Like, you set goals and don't end up hitting them? Raise up your hand and say, "Aunty I"😉...Don't worry, I won't tell Santa😆
So many people are on top the table🤣...issoryte😁...we would break it together and ensure you don't fall off.
So I sat down to analyse what I did wrong, when all the goals I set for 2017 went for vanishing (oh, including Femi o😆) and I realized one thing.
And it's a mindset something😁
And it's called, Ambivalence
I'm sure you know this pattern.
You set goals, you are all hyped about it at first, you start at them, and then as you move on, the energy begins to wane.
September, October, November, you still haven't achieved those goals, so you think, "I will kill it next year."
So you write the year off and start preparing for the coming year, but then, the cycle repeats itself again🤷🏻♀️
And it doesn't matter what your goals are, or how much you know about goal setting, if you don't get this clear, you would keep recycling those goals like say na dustbin😆
I like to tell this story when talking about mindset and the issue of goal setting...
A certain sailor went out with his crew on a ship, they were supposed to go North.
But this sailor was such a boss. He didn't care about his crew members. So he gave orders as he wished without considering how they felt
So they had a coup. The crew members came together and said to themselves, "We've been on this journey for long, and we don't seem to be making any headway, my wife is with child, I hate that I left her alone"
Another said, "My Dad is sick & about to die, I wish I could see him just before he dies, but the captain wouldn't let us return." They all shared their pain and agreed that the captain wasn't nice to them nor helping.
So they decided to form a coup. Since he doesn't want to listen to us or our plea, we would not listen to his orders.
He said, "Go north," we'll go south. Put sleeping pills in everyone's food when serving them so instead of being on standby, everyone would be sleeping or in the toilet, put water in place of fuel, and remove the engine of the ship, let's see how we'll get to where he wants us to get to🤷🏻♀️
They did all that...and of course, the ship capsized as everything started turning out opposite.
You are that captain and your mindset and everything within are your crew members
The reason you don't achieve your goals is because you focus on the goals (WHAT) and forget about the (WHO).
Who you need to be to achieve those goals is more important than what you need to achieve because only WHEN you can become that person, would your goal freely come to you.
Everything you're looking for, is looking for you...
BUT, not this version of you.
You've probably heard this quote by Robin Sharma: Everything is created twice, first in your mind, and then in reality.
So whatever you see now in the physical, was once in the mental stage as a "thought"...and the reason that person was able to drag it to the physical is because they've created it before, (albeit,in their minds). So, it's easy to recreate.
So when you set goals, without first, getting your mindset ready to achieve those goals, you just end up mentally stressed about those goals and end up repeating same goals next year
You want A, but your mind is telling you, "You see ba, that A is not for you (now), you better do B, because that's what you're good at🤷🏻♀️
But because of your coconut head,🤣 you shuk head say, "lie lie, we must get A"...
You'll just realize that you end up trying and trying and eventually giving up because your mind is working against you.
And once you can't actualize it in your mind, it'll be difficult bringing it to fruition.
*Ambivalence* is a state of mind, where 2 opposite desires are present.
So you want to make #1,000,000 this month, you've set your goals, you've even drawn out a plan on how to achieve it, start a business, plant cocoyam in papa backyard, soak garri throughout the month,😁 etc etc.
But then, your mind says, "Nnamdi, bia o, you know say all those ones na wash"🤷🏻♀️ "You never even make #1000 before and you say na 1M you wan make?, Shey you dey whine me ni?"🤣
So while your goal says 1M, your mind says, 1k or we die here😆 Guess who'll win?🤷🏻♀️
Your mind of course🤷🏻♀️
And this is why you end up recycling those goals and never hitting the sweet spot🥳
Today, we just set the stage on why you don't achieve those goals, in the subsequent posts, we'll discuss how to move on to create/develop that mental attitude to smash all your 2021 goals, including the one you're scared of setting self.😉
Do well to follow through.
